                                                          THE EXAMEN

This ancient prayer practice has to do with God in Day-to-Day Life.  While silent prayer seeks to move us beyond this world of ours, the examen assists us in finding the God who is moving toward us, who is reaching into our world to save us.

Jesus is always trying to get our attention.  Ignatius suggests to find God in the present one should begin by looking at the past.  God leaves a trail of experience in our lives.

The first step is proper intention, in others remind yourself why God gave you life.

The second step is a divine indifference to all created things,  For example we should not prefer health to sickness, riches to poverty, etc.

Mary, the mother of our Lord  prayed, “Let it be with me according to your word.” Luke 1:38

I haven’t arrived at step two in the examen although I am surrounded by people  who bear their maladies with grace  and peace.

What are you thankful for today?
