LENTEN THOUGHTS
This past Sunday we sang two of my favorite hymns: When I Survey the Wondrous Cross and Jesus Paid it All. Today I share with you Jesus Paid it All.
I was twelve years old and couldn’t wait until the preacher at Central Baptist Church, Waycross, Georgia, finished his sermon and gave the formal invitation for those who wanted to acknowledge their desire to become a follower of Jesus to come forward. Going forward with me was my first cousin, Lonnette Davis, a year younger than me. I remember telling a lady in the choir that I was disappointed that they hadn’t sung, Just as I Am. I’ve never forgotten her reply: “As you grow older you’ll be glad that we sang, Jesus Paid it All. She got it right!
JESUS PAID IT ALL
I hear the Savior say, Thy strength indeed is small, Child of weakness watch and pray. Find in me thine all in all.
Lord, now indeed I find Thy power, and thine alone, Can change the leper’s spots. and melt the heart of stone.
For nothing good have I whereby Thy grace to claim; I’ll wash my garments white in the blood of Calvary’s lamb.
And when, before the throne, I stand in Him complete, “Jesus died my soul to save,” My lips shall still repeat.
CHORUS:
Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain He washed it white as snow.
