For the next week or so I’m going to pass on to you tidbits of information concerning The Cherokee Nation just prior to the Trail of Tears.  The facts may surprise you!

Did you know that the Cherokees created a Cherokee Supreme Court in 1822 to hear cases appealed from lower courts?

Did you know that the state of Georgia did not establish a constitutional amendment authorizing a Georgia Supreme Court until 1835 and that it was ten years later, 1845, before it was established by the General Assembly?

This is a replica of the New Echota Supreme Court Building.  It was two-stories tall and was lighted by candles.
