When I start getting notices from Walker Retired Educators Association I know summer is over.  Everything except the continuing heat wave is over in my neck of the woods.    We’re still enjoying water aerobics in our outdoor swimming pool.

DID YOU KNOW that Cherokees never lived in teepees?  They had winter houses and summer houses but no teepees.  So why is it when you go to Cherokee, North Carolina a man dressed as a Cherokee Chief invites you to have your picture taken with him beside a teepee?  I think it boils down to money.  Most people think all Indians lived in teepees and the enterprising photographer simply cashes in on their expectations.

A typical home of a Cherokee in Georgia in the 1830’s.  This compares quiet favorably to the home of the Georgia white population in the same time frame.
