SOMEBODY LEFT THE REFRIGERATOR OPENED
Today started out cold and is probably going to end colder. There has been talk of snow tomorrow but right now I wouldn’t count on it.
Today was Transfiiguration Sunday and focus of study was the time when Jesus carried Peter, James, and John up the mountain and gave them the opportunity to confirm who he really was, the MESSIAH. Seeing Moses and Elijah join Jesus Peter had a bright idea. They should erect three booths, one for each of them. Oh, no! This experience was about Jesus only and pointed to what was to soon become reality. His death, burial, and resurrection was eminent.
If you become confused in understanding Scripture and always go with Jesus and hopefully we’ll see what he’s telling us.
II Kings gives us the beautiful story of Elisha and Elijah where Elisha received a double portion of the wisdom of Elijah.
Long, long ago when I was seventeen I brought a devotional thought to a small Baptist gathering in south Georgia. The presiding moderator was a distant relative and knew my father who was struck by a bolt of lightning when he was 32 and I was four months old. He made a comment that day that has stuck with me. “It looks to me as if a double portion of Ward Sweat’s ministry has fallen on his youngest daughter.” I hope I have in some small measure lived up to the high observation.
THANKS BE TO GOD
