A HODGEPODGE OF CHRISTMAS MEMORIES

FROM MY CHILDHOOD

My second remembered Christmas happened when I was six and in the second grade.  Mom had rented out our farm and we had  moved into a  nearby rural rented house.   My beloved older brother, J.Fudge, sent my sister and I replica’s of Princess Elizabeth from  the Davis Paxton Store in Atlanta, Georgia.  My sister Kathryn and I badgered  Mom until she let us open the package, promising we’d let her put them back in the box as soon as we saw them.  I hope I kept my word.  However, I was a notorious liar in my early on years. I probably snuck several peeps.

Disaster stuck on Christmas Day.  My brothers were getting ready to go to the yard to light up the sky with fireworks.  I lit a roman candle in the living room and only the quick thinking of  of J.Fudge kept it from doing great damage.

FAST FORWARD TO CHRISTMAS DURING ALAN’S CHILDHOOD

When Alan was in the second or perhaps the third grade our local mayor called and asked if if our family would share Christmas with a pre-teen girl who had been put in jail temporarily.  We agreed.  I was so proud of Alan and our neighbor and friend,Mary Ann as they went all out to make her Christmas  special with toys, clothes and candy treats.

When Alan was in either junior high or high school Christmas pressures were mounting and I still didn’t have our tree decorated.  I went shopping and when I returned Alan and Claude had decided to help me out by decorating the tree.  I cried!  You’ve never seen such a sloppy job.  Gobs of tinsel  had been haphazardly tossed on the evergreen tree.
ONE FINAL SAN FRANCISCO MEMORY

My Delta flight from Atlanta to San Francisco was due to land in San Francisco c. 7:00 p.m.
It was already well past 7:00 and we hadn’t left the Atlanta airstrip!  They kept de-icing the plane and once it was deemed safe for us to leave we had to wait on our turn to leave the runway.  I got into San Francisco around 2:30 a.m.P.S.T.  We were all exhausted!

I’ve run out of  my top memories and have enjoyed  sharing them with you.

2016 calls and I must get back to creating Book @ of Trail Blazer.
