                                                              LENTEN THOUGHTS

Today I’m recalling Jesus’ temptation experiences in the wilderness.  I suggest  it’s noteworthy  this event happened just after Jesus’ baptism.

At the time of his baptism God proclaimed, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.”

Both Matthew and Luke include the temptation of Jesus.  Matthew 4:1-11

It’s been a long time since Jesus last ate so it is natural that Satan tempts him to turn a rock into bread.  Failing in his  quest Satan offers Jesus the kingdoms of the world if he will only bow down and worship him.  Jesus nixes this plan also.  Finally Satan asks Jesus to test God.
With each temptation Jesus answers with a verse of Scripture.  When it comes to the third temptation we find that Satan can quote Scripture also.

Don’t miss this:  When Satan left the scene angels came and cared for Jesus.

Reflect on your own baptism.  What  promises did you make?  Have you been faithful in keeping your promises?

The powerful temptations followed a high water event in the life of Christ.
When are you most likely to be tempted?
