                                                           LENT:  GOOD FRIDAY

Last night our church combined Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services into one service.

The stage setting was austere.  A cross stood in the middle of the stage and blow it there were seven black candles.  On either side of the cross was lecterns for reading, without additional comments being added, the seven sayings from the cross with music interspersed.  Once a saying was read the reader snuffed out a candle.  With the cry of “It is finished!” all the candles have been extinguished and we are sitting in darkness while the Christ candle is removed.  We were offered a nail and hammer opportunity to nail symbolically our sins to the cross.  You were left with the thundering of nails as the choir say, “Were You There When They Crucified MyLord?”

Thank you, Jesus, for dying in my place.  My heart is racing toward resurrection Sunday but we aren’t there yet. Jesus is still in the tomb.  Is this the end?
